RV Terms Glossary: Letter "L"
LAMINATE
A sandwich of structural members, wall paneling, insulation, and exterior covering, bonded under pressure and/or heat, in order to form the walls, floor, or roof of an RV.

LEVELING JACK
One of four lifting systems located at each corner of the RV to provide a solid and level foundation.

LIGHT WEIGHT RV
RVs designed to be easily towed behind most SUVs, Minivans, light-duty trucks and even certain cars.
LIMIT SWITCH
Furnace safety switch, a normally closed switch that opens if it gets too hot, opening turns off power to the gas valve and igniter board.
LIMITED-SLIP DIFFERENTIAL
A differential designed with a mechanism that limits the speed and torque differences between its two outputs, ensuring that torque is distributed to both drive wheels, even when one is on a slippery surface.

LIVABILITY PACKAGES
Items to equip an RV for daily living that can be rented at nominal cost from rental firms (rather than be brought from home). These include bed linens, pillows and blankets, bath towels, pots and pans, kitchen utensils and cutlery.
LOCKING PIN
A hitch pin that locks with a key to prevent theft of a ball mount or other insert.
LP GAS
Liquefied petroleum gas; propane is one formulation and butane is the other. Propane fuels RV appliances, such as the stove and refrigerator.

LUAN
The 1/8" backing board for filon (the fibreglass sheeting used in RVs with fiberglass construction). Luan is the base that the filon (fibreglass) is glued onto.
